Local Food and Gardening
Cambridge residents are passionate about their fresh fruit and vegetables. I’ve held a series of organizing meetings to encourage the city government to expand this effort.
- I’ve pressed for more community garden plots – 15 more plots are on the way for Riverside Press Park. I'm also working to secure the future for 65 plots on Whittemore Ave.
- I’m organizing community-based activities celebrating local agriculture, such as the Harvard Square Urban “Ag” Fair featuring vegetables grown in Cambridge, scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2011.
- I’m connecting businesses and community organizations to food pantries in order to increase the supply of fresh fruit and vegetables to low-income residents.
- I worked to establish the successful and beloved Cambridgeport Farmers’ Market, assuring that it got through the regulating process about 14 years ago.
